I am so glad I found Miss Akolekar, she is exceptionally calm, gentle and caring which is exactly what was needed after a difficult start to my breast cancer diagnosis elsewhere.
During my consultations, I always felt that MIss Akolekar was giving me the best professional advice, suggesting the best treatment for me personally and providing the best care. She lifted a huge burden off my shoulders and made me feel that she had it all under control and I could relax a little.
My mastectomy was performed by Miss Akolekar in 2019 alongside a wonderful consultant whom she had recommended for the reconstruction, and happily my procedure was very successful.
My aftercare has been excellent, I always feel she has time to listen to any concerns and that they are carefully considered and dealt with accordingly.
I would have no hesitation at all in recommending Miss Akolekar to any prospective patients. If you are looking for the best then you should look no further.

Miss Akolekar was just wonderful. She was empathetic, reassuring and clear. She explained everything and reassured me in what was quite a scary time. My surgery was great too - no pain whatsoever and a tiny scar.

From my initial visit until today Miss Akolekar has treated me in a friendly and professional manner, dealing with my concerns by answering questions in a full and frank manner and referring me where necessary. She has undertaken cancer removal from one breast and its restructuring which was a difficult talk due to my chest bone structure. At all times I have felt in kind, safe, hands and able to discuss each step of my illness.
I am now on annual review with the option of further cosmetic work on the restructed breast if I so choose.
Having seen her under the NHS and privately I can confirm that her treatment is exemplary and would have no hesitation in recommending her should the need arise.

Miss Akolekar is a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon whose substantive NHS practice is based at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. She is the Clinical Lead of the Breast Unit.
She undertook her higher surgical training with the South-East Scotland rotation. She trained at the Edinburgh Breast Unit at Western General Hospital and subsequently continued her training in Breast Surgery at South East London and Kent Hospitals. On completion of her higher specialist surgical training, she was offered the National Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Fellowship at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guilford and Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead. She has worked with a some brilliant Oncoplastic and Plastic Surgeons to advance her surgical skills.
She is fully trained in advanced breast conservation and breast reconstruction. As a female breast surgeon, she is passionate about conserving the breast whenever possible and using plastic surgical techniques to ensure that women undergoing breast surgery have good aesthetic outcomes.
Deepika believes in establishing excellent rapport with her patients and empowering them with the knowledge and help them in decision making during their treatment Deepika has keen interest in clinical academics and education. She underwent a dedicated period of full-time research at the University of Edinburgh which led to the award of a research MD. She has presented her work in national and international meetings and published her work in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Deepika has a keen interest in service development. She introduced a structured telephone clinic at the Maidstone Breast Unit to convey results to patients in a timely manner thereby saving them a visit to the hospital and increasing the capacity in the breast clinics. She passionately believes in improving patient experience especially when they are faced with anxious. She has contributed to the development of Hospital@Home team which allows early discharge of patients after surgery.
Deepika has developed the Breast App along with her colleague Dr Russell Burcombe to provide patients reliable information during their treatment.
